How to make your home look luxurious

I have always loved the look of high-end interiors, but never the jaw-dropping price associated with it. I'm sharing some tips that I have learned along the way of how to create a luxurious, high-end home. The best part is that these tips are all super simple to implement and will not cost you a fortune.

1. Keep a neutral colour palette

Neutrals are my favourite because they are always on trend! Colours like beige, white, camel, navy, and gray are super trendy right now.  Neutral colours are classic and are so timeless and will never go out of style. They instantly look more high-end and chic when used correctly. Black and white are so simple, but seriously make the biggest impact and make a space feel instantly put together.

2. Opt for timeless patterns, materials, & silhouettes

Going trendy is always tempting in the moment! While it's always fun to embrace trends, in a couple years it will look dated and feel tacky. Choosing materials like marble, subway tile, classic wood floors are always a safe bet. Materials that you find in classic buildings that have been around for over 100 years are so classic and will continue to be around for many years to come. Choosing subtle patterns and classic silhouettes for furniture, like a wing-back chair or canopy bed,  will look high-end as well.

3. Play with different textures

Using different textures creates a space with layers and dimension, making it appear luxurious and rich. Layering rugs, using different textured pillows and bedding are some easy ways to do this. I always like to add at least one wood tone in either my decor or furniture to a space to add some warmth and beautiful texture. This detail will elevate any room and will also make it feel cozy.

4. hang large scale art or mirrors

As much as I love a gallery wall and using smaller pieces of art, there is a time and a place for that too. If you really want that high end look use a large mirror or piece of art. It can be a print, photograph, or an abstract painting, but it will look very high end since it takes up so much wall space. The bigger the piece, the more attention it will get, and will make your space feel grand and expansive.

5. showcase vintage pieces

I love vintage pieces because, again it gives that layered feel to a room. I also love that they are one of a kind, making it feel like you have a custom or expensive piece. The hunt for the perfect vintage piece is also fun too. If you're looking for a fun DIY project you can pick up a cheap vintage piece of furntiure from either Facebook marketplace, kijiji, or your local thrift store and transform it with either a coat of paint, stain or new hardware.

6. add trim & mouldings

Taking notes from European architecture and design, they are never without any intricate mouldings, trims, and details on their walls. I am so obsessed with the look of this and how it can instantly transform a boring room. This also look so expensive, but doesn't cost that much money and takes a trip to your closest hardware store. I have seen so many amazing different ways to create a features wall by doing this too!

7. place greenery & floral arrangments (real or faux)

Creating a luxurious space also means creating a fresh and vibrant space. The best way to do this is to add greenery. Whether it's a tiny vase of foraged greenery or large tree, it will make your space come alive. This works with either real or faux plants depending on your level of commitment.

8. hang curtains high & wide around windows

Something that most people don't realize is that there is a proper way to hang curtains to make your space feel huge. I follow this guide I found on Pinterest and it's another easy way to elevate your home.

9. choose bold lighting  & hardware

This is probably my favourite tip! I like to think that hardware and lighting is the jewelry of the home and can make or break a space. If you are living with builder grade hardware and lighting, I would highly suggest swapping it out for something with more personality. There are so many places to find great lighting options and Etsy is my favourite places to find unique hardware and vintage lighting.

10. Keep your home organized

Last, but certainly not least is to keep an organized space. Clutter is not cute, period. Clutter can actually make your space feel smaller and way less chic. Find an organziation system that works best for you. There are so many ideas on Pinterest and baskets and trays will become your best friend for keeping everything in its place.
I hope these tips helped you to make your home feel more put-together and luxurious.
